Richard S. Nordmeyer, 66, of Fargo, ND, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Sanford Health surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Richard Steven Nordmeyer was born on August 29, 1948 in Breckenridge, MN, to Merton and Ruth (Iverson) Nordmeyer. Richard grew up in Willmar, MN and graduated from Willmar High School in 1966. After graduation he enlisted in the USMC where he served in the Vietnam War. After finishing his tour in Vietnam, Richard married Mary Nelsen, and from this union, two sons were born, Ben and Cory.
On March 17, 1979, Richard married Vickie Cooper in Jamestown, ND and from this union three children were born, Kyle, Elizabeth, and Adam. Richard and Vickie made their home in Jamestown, ND and Bismarck, ND where Richard worked for BNSF as a conductor for 35 years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Vickie; his five children, Ben (Sheri) Nordmeyer, Kandiyohi, MN; Cory (Sally) Nordmeyer, Chanhassen, MN; Kyle (Courtney) Nordmeyer, Bismarck, ND; Elizabeth (Dustin) Rassier, Welch, MN; and Adam (Madeline) Nordmeyer, Fargo, ND; his ten grandchildren, Spencer, Lucas, Zachary, Katelyn, Annabelle, Noah, Lucy, Easton, Abram, and Lainey; his brother, William (Bonnie) Nordmeyer, Willmar, MN; his mother-in-law, Shirley Cooper, Willmar, MN; his sisters-in-law, Connie (Daniel) Wisdorf, Spokane, WA, and Sally Kaus, Mankato, MN; his brother-in-law, Scott (Scott) Cooper, Indianapolis, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Ruth; his sister, Marcia Lindquist; his father-in-law, George Cooper; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Kaus.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given to the LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) and your local Humane Society.
