Richard “Jake” Jacobson, 81, Fargo, ND, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Jake was born August 12, 1926, to Carl and Gladyce (Bauer) Jacobson in Fargo, North Dakota, and was a lifetime resident of Fargo. Jake and Ardis Anderson were married June 18, 1948, and lived at 709 N. 3rd St., until her death in 2002. He spent the remainder of his years at the Fairmount Independent Living Center in Moorhead, Minnesota. Jake worked for over 34 years at the Glidden Paint Center in Fargo. Jake served his country in the Navy from 1944, until his honorable discharge in 1952. Boy Scouts was a part of most of Jake’s life. He joined the Boy Scouts at age 12 and achieved the rank of Star. His time with the Scouts was interrupted by WWII. Jake was involved as an adult in Scouting since 1962, with Troops 216, 223 and 209. He served as Scout Master, Roundtable Commissioner, Explorer Advisor and Order of the Arrow Advisor. He received numerous awards including Wood Badge, District Scouter of the Year, Scouter’s Key and Eagles Man of the Year. In April 1978, he received the Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest award given by the Northern Light Council of the American Boy Scouts. Jake was also active at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church as an usher and in the quilting group. Jake is survived by his children, Barry (Phylis) Jacobson, Minnetonka, MN; Brad (Janet) Jacobson, Aurora, CO; Bonnie Jacobson, Fargo, ND; Byron (Becky) Jacobson, Edina, MN; Bryant “Scott” (Colleen) Jacobson, Crystal, MN; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: Friday, February 22, 2008, at 2:00 PM, at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
