Richard Loren Healy

Richard L. Healy was born January 3, 1929 at Glenburn, ND and in 1937 moved with his parents to Hankinson, ND where he graduated from high school in 1946. He attended the State College of Science at Wahpeton, ND in 1947 and 1948. He graduated from the University of ND School of Law and from the USAF Air Command and Staff School at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama in 1952. Richard married Ann Chesley (Thomas) December 17, 1952 in Minneapolis, MN. He married Donna Hanson April 17, 1987 in Wahpeton, ND.

Richard enlisted in the USAF prior to graduation from law school and served in the Korean War at site K-55 with the 18th Ftr/Bmr Wing as a Judge Advocate. He practiced law in Hankinson starting in October 1953, moved to Fargo in 1998 and maintained a law office in both Hankinson and Fargo until his death. He was Chairman of the Board of Lincoln State Bank in Hankinson.

Richard was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in 1952 and to the Federal Bar in 1968, has served as Hankinson City Attorney, Counsel for the Hankinson Public School District No. 8, was past president of the Richland County Bar Assn. and was a member of the Richland County and Cass County Bar Associations as well as the North Dakota Bar Association. He was an active member of the ND Banker’s Assn. until 1998 when he moved to Fargo. He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, MA. His church of attendance was the Fargo, ND Christian Science Society.

Richard passed away at Eventide-Fargo on January 15, 2019 at the age of 90.

Richard was predeceased by his son, Glenn in 1965, his mother, Helen, in 1974 and his father, Fred, in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Donna of Fargo, son, Paul in New York City, daughter, Karen Hurwitt (David) and grandchildren, Frederick, Claire and Chase of Charlotte, Vermont; and step-daughter, Christie Lindemann (Scott) of Minneapolis, MN.
