Richard Elstad

Richard W. Elstad, 71, Fargo, ND, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Elim Nursing Home, Fargo. Richard was born June 8, 1935, in Fargo, ND, to Gerhard and Cora (Swiggum) Elstad, Kindred, ND. Richard attended school in Kindred and graduated from high school there. He helped his parents in the "Elstad's Grocery" store in Kindred. After the death of his father, he continued to help his mother at the store until it was sold. Richard spent several years at the Evaluation and Training Center in Fargo. He worked at Oak Manor, Biltmore Motel, Ponderosa, Doublewoood Inn and NW Bell. Richard lived in Fraser Ltd. group home for many years, moving to the the Fargo High Rise in August l987. He had special people at Fraser that helped him live independently. He enjoyed sports and participated in Special Olympics bowling for many years. He was very interested in family history and loved to read and watch TV. He enjoyed holidays with his cousin, Myrtle Nygard and her family. A highlight for him every year was when Myrtle took him to Kindred for the Memorial Day services. He was also able to do some traveling with Myrtle's assistance. Richard had a special place in the hearts of family members and friends. He was great at remembering all your names and enjoyed your cards and letters. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerhard, and his mother, Cora. Funeral: Friday, April 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Kindred Lutheran Church, Kindred, North Dakota. Visitation: One hour prior to services at the church. Burial: Kindred Cemetery, Kindred, North Dakota.
