Richard "Dick" Burchill

Richard “Dick” Burchill, age 92, of Fargo, died at The Meadows in Fargo, ND.

Dick was born on August 27, 1930 in Barnes County, ND to James and Ida Burchill.
He grew up with 5 siblings on a farm north of Valley City and attended Baldwin Township school. He graduated from Valley City High School and later attended Interstate Business College.

Dick married Patricia Johnson on May 5, 1950 and they had 4 children. They made their home in Fargo and spent their summers farming near Valley City.
From his earliest childhood days, the culture of Dick’s life was hard work. He had an uncanny ability to catch on fast to any endeavor he took on. Dick was a driven and determined man.
In the Fall after the crops were in, he would come back to Fargo and do taxes for HR Block in the winter. Dick also owned and operated a Star mail route for 25 years. At one point it was the longest route in the state, delivering mail to many small towns from Fargo to Devils Lake 6 days a week.

While farming, Dick also acquired and operated a small heavy equipment earth moving company. He was gifted by being extremely handy. He was one of those who could build or fix almost anything. He used these talents many times over the years helping his kids with all sorts of projects. He retired from farming in 1978 and spent many years working at WDAY in Fargo.

He retired in 1992. Pat also died in 1992.

In 1994, Dick married Jeanette Engel in Fargo. They enjoyed their time traveling and spending winters in Arizona. Dick and Jeanette were members of Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, where Dick served as an elder. Jeanette died in 2019.

Dick is survived by 3 children, Richard Jr (Kathleen), Linda, and Barry (Ramona), 6 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Pat, second wife Jeanette, and his son David.

The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, at 2:00PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo. The visitation will be held one hour prior.
Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo.
