Richard Arman

February 16, 1941 — August 19, 2011

Richard (Dick) Arman was born to John Arman, from Grafton, ND (d. 1970), and Lucille (Dalseth) Arman, from Clinton, MN (d. 1996), on February 16, 1941. He passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Fargo VA, Friday, August 19, 2011, after a long struggle with esophageal cancer, surrounded by family and friends and a very supportive staff. Dick is survived by his children, Sheila (Richard) Taitano, Hopkins, MN, and John (Melissa) Arman, St. Paul, MN, and two grandsons, Lucas and Jake Taitano, his sisters, Jane (Duffy) Williams, Fargo, ND, and Mary (Roy) Thompson, Cheyenne, WY, two nieces and three nephews. Dick was married to Judy Slayton for six years. He leaves behind his special buddy Jim Austin, his Thursday night dinner group, and many other close friends. Dick was a friend of Bill W. for 34 years. After being born in Aberdeen, SD, he moved to Fargo at a very early age and called Fargo his home. He graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1959. Dick earned the rank of Eagle Scout Explorer/Silver in high school and worked at Camp Wilderness for one summer. He then attended NDSU, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Dick was assigned to U.S. Air Force Pilot Training at Moody AFB, GA, and received his pilot’s wings in 1965. After advanced training in the F-102, he returned to Fargo and was a pilot for the Happy Hooligans of the NDANG. Dick owned Arman Art & Advertising during the 1970’s and 1980’s. He then began a career in real estate as a commercial/residential realtor for RE/MAX where he retired in 2005 due to his illness. Dick was chairman of the 21st District Republicans and spent many years working and supporting the Republican Party. Dicks’ paternal grandparents were born in Iceland and Dick was President of the Fargo - Moorhead Icelandic Klub, where he was a member for many years. Memorials may be made to the FM Icelandic Klub for student scholarships. Funeral Service: Monday, August 22, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Sunday, August 21, 2011, from 4-6 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM. Inurnment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
