Richard William Anderson, 65, was called home by Our Lord on January 4, 2015. He passed away peacefully at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo.
Richard was born May 16, 1949 to Alfred and Joan (Morris) Anderson, in Jamestown, ND. He graduated from Cooperstown High School in Cooperstown, ND in 1967. He married the love of his life, Linda Kurtti in 1968. Richard served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 until 1972. He trained as a diesel mechanic stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and later worked as a prison guard in the Third Naval District Correctional Center, Marine Barracks, Brooklyn, New York. He earned Marine of the Quarter, New York Council Meritorious Achievement Award, and Marine of the Year, 1971, for the Third Naval District. Other roles included being the chauffeur for the Admiral of the Eastern Seaboard in New York City and New Jersey.
After the Marine Corps, Richard and Linda returned to North Dakota where he attended North Dakota State University for five years and graduated with a degree in Architecture. He worked for 20 years as a mechanical designer at Mooney, Henning, Metz which became Henning, Metz, Hartford.
In 1995 Richard received a “Gift of Life” kidney transplant from his sister Judy.
Richard is survived by his mother, Joan (Morris) Anderson, Cooperstown; wife, Linda, Fargo; son, Christopher Anderson (Allison Clapp), Fargo; brother, Douglas (Char), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; brother Wayne (Diane), Cooperstown, North Dakota; and sister, Judy Zimprich (Dave), Cooperstown, North Dakota.
