Rebecca Lane Emerson, age 63, of Fargo passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
Rebecca Emerson was born June 4, 1953, in Fargo, North Dakota, the oldest child of Dianne (Foreng) and Robert Ensrud. She was confirmed at Osakis Lutheran Church in 1968 and graduated from Osakis (MN) High School in 1971.
She attended Moorhead State University and graduated in 1975 with degrees in Special Education and Elementary Education. She was one of the very first Special Education teachers certified in Minnesota. She began her teaching career in Villard, MN.
On April 5, 1975, Rebecca was married to Albert Emerson in Osakis Lutheran Church. They later moved to Portland, Oregon, where she continued her teaching career for 4 years. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Alicia Kristine, born in 1977, and Johanna Lane, born in 1981. In 1983, they moved to Fargo, where Becky spent her last 28 years of teaching special education and elementary at Agassiz, Longfellow, Roosevelt, and Hawthorne. She retired from teaching in 2011.
Becky is survived by her husband, Albert; children, Alicia and Johanna; and her precious grandson, Finnley Emerson (4 months); stepfather, James Walsh; siblings, Greg (Karen) Walsh, Randy (Jackie) Walsh, Kimberly (Todd) Schoeck, Patrick (Nancy) Walsh, Stephanie (Tim) Waldvogel, Tara (Jon) Reichmann, and Nicholas Walsh, as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Becky was preceded in death by her mother, Dianne (Foreng) Walsh; nieces, Breanna (Schoeck) Becthold and Hayley Grace Waldvogel.
A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND, at 2:00, while burial service will be held at Sheyenne Lutheran Church in Pekin, ND, on Friday, November 25, 2016.
