Raymond M. (Buddy) Paulsen, 94, of Fargo, died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.
Raymond Melvin Paulsen was born to August and Mary Paulsen on November 15, 1920 near Bluegrass, Minnesota. He was the youngest of four children. He grew up on the family farm.
On October 30, 1942, Raymond was inducted into the US Army. During World War II he was in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged October 29, 1945. During his years of service he received American Campaign Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
On November 28, 1945 Raymond was united in marriage to Dorothy Monroe. They lived in the city of Wadena until the summer of 1948 when they moved to the family farm near Bluegrass, where they farmed until 1955. In June of 1955 Raymond, Dorothy and their five children moved to Fargo, North Dakota.
Raymond worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 32 years. He retired on April 25, 1984. When he retired he held the title of an Inhalation Therapy Technician.
After retiring from the VA Raymond was active in the Optimist Club and Red River Danes. He also delivered meals on wheels and he and Dorothy volunteered at Bonanzaville in West Fargo.
Ray enjoyed gardening, working in his woodworking shop and spending time with is grandchildren. Ray and Dorothy also took many bus trips all over the US.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Paulsen, Fargo, ND; four sons, James Paulsen, Moorhead, MN, David (Marie) Paulsen, Glyndon, MN, Ronald (Sandra) Paulsen, Albany, MN, Steven (Laurie) Paulsen, Audubon, MN and daughter, JoAnn (Terry) Smeby, West Fargo, ND; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Orville and one sister, Leona, infant grandson, Jeffrey Paulsen and great grandson Jackson Lundeby.
Memorials are preferred to Olivet Lutheran Church and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
