Paula Parmer, 56, of Fargo, passed away Feb. 10, 2007, at SCCI Hospital in Fargo, N.D., after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family. Paula Sue Rusness was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Fargo. She attended Fargo Public Schools and graduated from Fargo South High School in 1968. She attended nursing school and graduated in 1971. On June 17, 1972, she married Bruce Parmer. She began her nursing career at St. John’s Hospital, Fargo, in the newborn nursery and pediatrics. Her career took her to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, UND Family Practice Center and the VA Hospital, where she was a floor nurse and health benefit advisor. She was instrumental in setting up satellite VA clinics in North Dakota and western Minnesota until she retired due to health reasons. Paula and Bruce would like to thank all the staff that cared for her at Mayo Clinic, MeritCare Hospital and SCCI Hospital. Paula was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Rusness. She is survived by her husband, Bruce; two sons, Nathan Parmer and Joseph Parmer, both Fargo; her twin sister, Peggy (Steve) Laney, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; her brothers, David (Diane), Fargo, and Ben (Cheryl), Omaha, Neb.; and many nephews and nieces. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. The funeral will held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in First Lutheran Church in Fargo.
