Patricia Skognes, 99, Fargo, ND, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo.
Patricia was born December 8, 1918 in Fargo to Ole and Olga (Sampson) Skognes. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. She attended Fargo Public Schools graduating in 1936. She then attended Moorhead State University (Teacher’s College at that time) enrolling in their two year program. Later she received a BA degree from Moorhead and her MA degree from NDSU, Fargo.
She was a long time Fargo teacher. During that time she also taught for a few years in the adult evening program sponsored by the Fargo Public Schools, beginning about 1954. Many of the people enrolled in that program came from Germany and Mexico and were intent on improving their reading and language skills. Others were preparing themselves for citizenship.
Pat joined MeritCare Auxiliary shortly after it was organized and worked the 5-9PM shift every other Friday at the Information Desk in the main lobby of the hospital. When that position was eliminated, she moved to an afternoon one for many years. She also volunteered at American Red Cross one day a week for over ten years, delivering people to and from medical appointments in the Fargo-Moorhead area. For the past few years she had been helping with the “Meals on Wheels” program delivering meals to seniors and the disabled. Pat was a member of Fargo Retired Teachers, Cass County Area Retired Teachers Assoc. as well as state and national organizations.
She enjoyed traveling and visited many countries and nearly every state in our United States. Any progress being made in the Fargo-Moorhead area was of great interest to her. She enjoyed the challenge of bridge and crossword puzzles.
Though there are no immediate relatives, families that were special to her throughout her life are: Jill Krum, Carly Murphy, Charles and Jim Chinquist, Brenda Trandem, Anne Matzek and John Sampson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-brother, Carl Vanstrom Skognes.
