Palmer Oliver Langerud, 90, longtime resident of Williston ND, most recently of Fargo ND, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Elim Care Center in Fargo.
Palmer was born September 15, 1922, in Rock Lake, ND, to Thormod and Beathe Langerud. He attended country schools and schools in Calvin and Sarles. He married Ila Petsinger on October 27, 1948. They were blessed with over 64 years of marriage together.
Palmer and Ila moved to Williston during the oil boom in 1953. He worked as a shop foreman and a diesel and auto mechanic for the Williams County Highway Department for 34 years. He retired in 1987 after a long and successful career.
Palmer was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church in Williston. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, and was a longtime member of the Good Sam RV Club, which he and Ila enjoyed and cherished very much during their retirement years. He also enjoyed woodworking and metal work. He would see no need to buy something when, to him, you could simply make it yourself. Palmer also had a reputation for being able to fix almost anything that was broken. Palmer and Ila lived in Williston until 2012 when they moved to Fargo.
Palmer is survived by his wife, Ila, Fargo, ND; son, Dennis (Phyllis) Langerud, Chula Vista, CA; daughter, Sharon (Melvin) Nitschke, and their children Andrew and Justin Nitschke, all of Fargo, ND; son, Larry (Barbara) Langerud, Williston, ND, and their children, Cass (Mike) Lund, and their son, Jordan Lund, West Fargo, ND; Corey (Jayme Johnson) Langerud, Grand Forks, ND; sister, Evelyn McConnell, Langdon, ND; sister-in-law, Fern Langerud, Grand Forks, ND; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Clara, Alice, and Ellen; 6 brothers, Hjalmar, Bennett, Leroy, Alvin, Gordon, and Alton; an infant grandson; and an infant great granddaughter, Alexis Lund.
