Orlyen Stensgard, 89, beloved Father, was called to his eternal resting place on September 30, 2018.
Orlyen Oscar Stensgard entered this world on March 20, 1929 in Fargo, ND, born to Oscar and Hilda (Hanson) Stensgard. He attended Fargo Central High and shortly after he proudly enlisted in the US Army. He served for four years, after which he came back to Fargo to work for Nash Finch where he ended up managing 4 Piggly Wiggly grocery stores. In 1964 Orlyen went into the insurance business where he worked for the next 54 years, mainly with Guarantee Mutual Life Company.
Orlyen has proudly served with the Fargo American Legion Post #2 Color Guard for over 50 years, providing comfort and honor by presenting the United States Flag to thousands of families of military service members. He had served in the North Dakota Army National Guard’s famed 164th Infantry Regiment and began participating in color guards while he was in the National Guard. He was a two-time Post Commander of the Fargo American Legion as well. Orlyen’s faithful service will be missed throughout the community. His love of country was second to none.
Orlyen is survived by Betty Stensgard; his sons, Chuck Stensgard, Dan Stensgard, Ron (Barb) Stensgard, Gregg (Stephanie) Stensgard, Curt Stensgard, Keith Stensgard; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Thomas and Gary; brother, Gordon Stensgard; sister, Harriet Morinville.
