Oliver "Sig" Sigurdson, 85, passed away January 8, 2022, at Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Oliver was born in Grafton, ND, on August 15, 1936, the son of the late Halli and Rhoda Sigurdson. He was raised in Hunter, ND, where he attended school until 1953 when he joined the US Army. He was stationed in Germany, Iceland & Washington. On November 30, 1959, he was honorably discharged. Oliver went to work with the Fargo Fire Dept on August 16, 1960, where he worked 38 years, retiring June 14, 1989. In November 1962, he met Judy Leon on a blind date. They were married on July 19, 1963, in Fargo at St. John's Lutheran Church. They have two daughters, Julie & Kari.
After retirement, he worked part-time at various restaurants & grocery stores to keep busy. He was a dedicated volunteer at Essentia Hospital, Hope Lutheran Church, The Salvation Army as a bell ringer, and The Doug Wendt Foundation. He was an avid blood donor for United Blood Services, a member of the VFW, Eagles, American Legion, and the Fargo VA.
Oliver enjoyed camping, fishing, volunteering, square dancing, bowling, spending time with friends, being a part of Memory Cafe, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Oliver is survived by his wife, Judy, daughters Julie Rohrich, Fargo and Kari Caine, Mahtomedi, MN, a brother, Donald Sigurdson, Lake City FL, Grandson's Justin (Gina) Rohrich West Fargo, Dawson and Alex Caine, Cottage Grove, MN, three great-grandchildren, Austin, Sophie & William Rohrich, Brother-in-law Ron (Virginia) Leon, Neice Shelly Seibel and Nephew's Todd, Tim, Mike, Brad & Randy Leon as well as several great-nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mother & Father-in-Law Rudy & Gladys Leon and Sister-in-Law Juna Sigurdson
