Norman "Jim" James Rohn

April 4, 1926 — January 5, 2015

Norman James Rohn (Jim) was welcomed home by his dear Lord and Savior on January 5, 2015.

He was born on April 4, 1926 in Alsen, North Dakota to George and Susan Rohn. Jim will be deeply missed by his daughters, Marianne (Bruce) Dakota, Polly (Dallas) Jorgenson, and Jean (Kelly) Rohn; His grandchildren, Tonya Grandbois-Smith, Amber Kerr, and Dallas James Jorgenson; His great grandchildren, Forrest, Liam, Eve, and Ronin; Sisters, Dorothy Farley, Marilyn Graffenberger, and his many friends at Touchmark.

Jim was preceded in death by his dear wife, Lois; daughter, Julie Ann; sisters, Jacklyn and Doris and his parents.

Jim served during World War II as a radioman on fighter-bombers base on the U.S.S. Saratoga. He began his career in 1946 at radio station KSJB in Jamestown, North Dakota. He eventually moved to Fargo where he served as weatherman and host of several live shows. Probably Jim’s most popular role was that of “Captain Jim”, which entertained thousands of children in the Red River Valley in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Jim left Fargo for Alexandria in 1972 and for 18 years he worked as weatherman at KCMT- TV. In 1990, Jim joined the morning team at KIKV-FM Radio where he did news and weather. He retired December 2014 and moved to Fargo. He was inducted into the Minnesota Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 1996. Throughout his life, Jim contributed thousands of hours to charity work and community events.

Jim Rohn has been a role model and inspiration to many and will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Douglas County Library in Alexandria, MN.
