Norman J. Gall

April 15, 1926 — May 19, 2014

Norman Johnny Gall was born on April 15, 1926 at Fredonia, ND to John and Caroline (Stockburger) Gall. He attended school in Kulm, ND. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corp, serving as a medical-surgical technician and a neuro-psychiatric technician in Fort Snelling, MN, Camp Crowder, MO, Camp Atterbury, IN, Mayo General Hospital, IL, Fort Bragg, NC, GA Burn Center and San Fransisco Letterman General Hospital, CA. He was honorably discharged on July 24, 1947. In 1948 Norm received his GED via correspondence through Cornell University. In 1950 he graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo with an accounting degree. Norm worked as an accountant for Crane Johnson Lumber from 1950-1956. In 1956 he joined Nash Finch Company, working in Fargo and Hutchinson, KS as their Retail Accounting Manager, Office Manager and later Accounting and Control Manager. Norm retired in 1991 after 35 years of service.

Norm was united in marriage to Margaret Skamfer on June 7, 1949 in Abercrombie, ND. Norm and Margaret had two children, Douglas and Dianne. They had been married 62 years at the time of Margaret’s death in 2012.

Norm was active in First Lutheran Church, Fargo Golden K Kiwanis (serving as President and Secretary), S.C.O.R.E., American Legion and Eagles Club. Norm was very handy and would never say no to any requests for help. He and Margaret enjoyed playing cards, traveling and socializing with their many friends and family. Norm touched many lives over his 88 years and easily made friends wherever he went. He approached each phase of his life with dignity and grace, even as his physical limitations made it difficult for him to maintain his independence. Norm always put his family first and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great grandchild later this year.
Norm passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Bethany on 42nd, in Fargo, ND.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Dianne (Dan) Dybwad, Grand Forks, ND; granddaughter, Jennifer (Bryan) Frank, Plymouth, MN; grandson, Aaron Nash, Grand Forks, ND.

He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers, Lillian (Albert) Gebhardt, Orem, UT; Edwin (Colleen) Gall, Coquille, OR; Ardella (Dennis) Justice, Surprise, AZ; Luella Struble, Jamestown, ND; LeRoy (Georgine) Gall, Plymouth, MN; and Delores (Ron) Roorda, Jamestown, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
