Norman Diede, 83, quietly passed away on the afternoon of January 26, 2023. He was in Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by his family and friends.
Norman was born on August 21, 1939, in Eureka, SD, to Henry and Martha Diede. He was one of 12 children, with Nora (Nelson) being his twin sister. Norm was a very humble God-Serving man who was an active member of Bethel Church of Fargo.
On September 30, 1961, Norman married the love of his life, Lyla Schaeffer. They were married for 61 years. With Lyla at his side, Norman was self-employed throughout his life owning and operating a number of businesses in the Fargo community. The longest ownership being in the hotel industry. Norman was also active in purchasing and developing land, plotting it into home communities throughout the years.
Norman was a gifted talented man. Besides Norman and Lyla's successful businesses, God granted Norman another gift. The artistic gift of creating masterpieces with all kinds of beautiful wood. Norman could take any piece of wood and turn it into an original beautiful detailed treasure: bowls, tables, benches, rocking chairs, clocks, knickknacks, and even a lemonade stand for the neighborhood kids. Their homes in West Fargo and Arizona are filled with Norman's creations, with many of his treasures being gifted to Lyla, family, and others.
Norman and Lyla traveled world-wide together, with some of the trips being missionary trips. On these missionary trips, Norman put his carpentry skills to work, help building homes and cabinets, with always wanting to help people.
Norman was a people person or more of a people magnet. As successful of a man as he was, he always treated all people the same. He was very humble, kind, and giving and always remembered where he came from...A God-Fearing hardworking German from Russia family.
Norman is survived by his wife, Lyla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martha; brothers, Royal, Calvin, Arnold, Clarance, Lawrence, and Aaron; sisters, Ella, Irene, Verna, Ruth, and Nora.
Inspired by their devotion to God, Norman and Lyla made many contributions to faith-based nonprofit organizations, churches, and individuals who were in need of financial and personal help.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made to Fargo Child Evangelism, Fargo Youth for Christ, or Fargo's New Life Center.
Lyla's family and friends are very grateful to have shared and been a part of Norman's life. He will be truly missed and always be loved and remembered.
