Nona Runestrand

Nona Runestrand, 93, of Fargo, ND died Friday, August 14, 2009, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo. Nona was born August 18, 1915 to Chris and Ida (Brown) Rasmussen in Medora, ND. She was born on the homestead that is now part of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. She graduated from De Mores High School in Medora. She attended Dickinson State and graduated from Moorhead State College. She taught at De Mores School in Medora. She married Walter Runestrand on July 17, 1931 in Beach, ND. They lived in Medora while Walter was in the Army. They moved to Fargo in 1946 where she taught at Madison, Longfellow and Carl Ben Eielson schools. She retired in 1983. Walter died in 1996. After retirement Nona enjoyed quilting, crafts, bridge, reading and bingo. She continued teaching by working with refugee children at Gethsemane Cathedral in Fargo. Nona loved her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Paula (Dennis) Hermen Fargo, ND and Kris (Dave) Schrandt, Houston, TX; one son, Warren, (Joan) Runestrand, Cleveland, OH; sister, Mary Runestrand, White Bear Lake, MN; grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Hermen, Trent (Renae) Hermen, , Jill Hermen, Scott (Treasia) Runestrand, Angela Beamon, Kori Schrandt and Lexi Schrandt; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan, Rebecca, Alex, Sara and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter, and three brothers.
