Nella C. Ross

Nella C. Ross, 102, Fargo, ND, died Friday, September 5, 2014 in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.

Nella Christine Vik was born on January 16, 1912, on a farm 10 miles south of Akeley, MN, to Christius and Mary (Bruflodt) Vik. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church located across the cornfield from the farm. She went to a one room schoolhouse one mile from the farm through the eighth grade. She worked on the farm and in Walker, MN at the County Poor Farm. She came to Fargo in her Model A Ford in 1931. She worked at Manchester Biscuit Company until she married her husband William “Bill” Ross on September 6, 1935 at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Fargo. They had three daughters, Marlys, Cheryl and Sharon. They lived above the 3rd Street North Grocery Store where Nella worked while the girls were in school. They moved in 1956.

Her husband Bill owned the Bismarck Tavern where he sponsored many sport teams especially bowling and softball. Nella liked to bowl and did so for many years and one year she and her girls bowled on a team together.

Nella worked at One Hour Martinizing on Broadway for several years. She lived on her own until she was 93 years old and went to live with her daughter Sharon and her husband Bruce. She went to Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home in 2011 on the Memory Care Floor.
Nella would make the girls’ dresses when they were young. She also loved to do crewel work, paint by number (a large painting of the last Supper), knit and crochet. She has been an active member of First Lutherarn Church sinice coming to Fargo where she was a member of circle groups and Wednesday Fellowship. She is a Golden member of the Sons of Norway Kringen Lodge in Fargo and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins.

Nella is survived by her daughters, Marlys (Milan) Olson of Moorhead, MN; Sharon (Bruce) Bohnsack of Fargo; four grandchildren, Michael J. Olson, of Fargo, ND; Brian (Vicki) Roberts of West Fargo; Vikki Roberts Munro and Christine Artamenko of Fargo; seven great-grandchildren, Lyndsay (Dan) Williams, Britny Wohl, Jamie Wohl, Elizabeth Munro, William Roberts, Tanner Vise and Tyler Vise; as well as many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; daughter, Cheryl Artamenko Beto; brothers, Harold Vik, Reuben Vik; sisters, Doris Burch Murdoff and Laura Vik; sister-in-law, Eva Vik; sister-in-law, Mildred Vik; brothers-in-law, George Burch and Wilfred Murdoff; nephews, Harold Burch and Robert Burch; sons-in-law, Jerry Roberts and David Lindsey.
