Naomi Albina Vining (Graepp) was born October 6, 1928 in Fargo to Reverend John F. and Emma Graepp. She grew up in Casselton, ND where she graduated from High School. She graduated from Concordia College in 1950 with a major in English and a minor in Biology. She taught high school English in Northhome, MN and Fergus Falls, MN.
Naomi married William Vining on May 24, 1952 in Fargo, ND.
After a short stay in Amarillo, TX they lived in Fargo. Although their residence was Fargo they enjoyed many years at the log cabin they built on Lake Lida, MN.
She was a life long pianist and organist. She played both at Peace Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church for Sunday Services as well as many funerals and weddings. Naomi was a member of church women organizations at Peace Lutheran, Zion Lutheran and First Lutheran churches. She was a dedicated quilter and an avid knitter. There are hundreds of people who, through many charitable organizations, benefited from a gift of a shawl, scarf, or cap which she had knit.
Naomi died on December 2, 2017at Elim Homes in Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill.
She is survived by two sisters, Leona (Donald – deceased) Larson, Duluth, MN and Erna (Ivan – deceased) Schwartz, Reedsburg, WI; her children, Stephen (Sandra) Vining, Beavercreek, OH, Mark (Janel Messmer) Vining, Fargo, ND, Timothy (Sandra) Vining, Goodyear, AZ, Anne (David “the favorite son-in-law”) Barlow, Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer Vining, Lisa (Wayne) McConnell, Geoffrey (Melissa) Vining, Ben (Becca Schnauber) Vining, Molly Barlow (Hayden Anderson), Justin (Janie) Barlow, and great grandchildren, Corinne McConnell, Elijah Barlow, and Emmerich McConnell.
