Nancy Hart Farlow Kvittum passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2016 surrounded by friends and family.
Nancy was born in 1942 to Alice (Gunkelman) and Keith Farlow in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Grandin and Fargo, ND and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1960. She received her Associate of Arts degree from Stephens College in Colombia, MO in 1962, and Bachelors of Arts degree from Penn State University in State College, PA in 1964. She then returned to Fargo and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN to receive her teaching certification.
Nancy married Gary Kvittum on November 26, 1965. In their 50 years of marriage they lived in Moorhead and Fargo, raised two daughters, and shared their home with numerous dogs and cats. Their home was always open to family, friends, and all the neighborhood kids.
A passionate educator for over 40 years, Nancy spent most of her career at Ben Franklin in Fargo and shared her love of U.S. History with thousands of students. She also co-taught thinking skills workshops for other teachers.
Nancy loved learning and enjoyed filling her spare time with reading, staying up-to-date on current events, supporting the NDSU Bison and Penn State Nittany Lions football teams, and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Gary of Fargo, ND; daughter, Dorothy of Golden Valley, MN; daughter, Deborah of Fargo, ND; brother, William (Annika) Farlow of Stockholm, Sweden; sister, Bonnie (John) Zager of College Park, MD; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to Homeward Animal Shelter, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or the American Cancer Society.
