Myrtle A. Tronson, age 98, Fargo, ND, passed away May 10, 2016 at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND. She was born to Theo and Anna (Anderson) Tronson on a farm in Traill County, ND on November 5, 1917. Myrtle was their only child. She was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Mayville, ND and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Buxton, ND. Myrtle excelled in school; she was a graduate of Buxton High School and Aakers Business College, Grand Forks. Her nickname growing up was "Queen Bee". During her working career she was employed by companies affiliated with Allied Van Lines in Grand Forks and Fargo as the Office Manager. During World War II she was employed at Anglo California National Bank as cashier of their Trust Department, and did some side-line modeling. Myrtle returned to North Dakota from California at the urging of her father following his heart attack and became the caregiver for both of her parents during the rest of their lives. She was proud of the fact that she was able to move to Fargo, and purchase her own home on 10th St South as a single woman. She loved driving her car and self decided to quit driving at age 94.
After retirement Myrtle enjoyed bus tours to various places in the US including to the Canadian Rockies, Washington, DC, New York City, Niagara Falls, Disney World, Epcot, Tampa, Hawaii and Alaska. She made many friends during her travels. She was an active member of the Sons of Norway and was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Myrtle loved making lefsa, rommegrot, lutefisk and canning. While a resident in Grand Forks she and Lu Sve founded the Happy Homemakers group. She was a very organized and detailed woman. She moved to Trollwood Apartments as one of the first residents there and it remained her home for 20+ years.
While a member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo, Myrtle was on the funeral service team and for 20 years supplied the baptismal napkins made from linen table clothes given to her by church members. She also completed baptismal napkins as gifts for start-up churches throughout the area. She completed a pastoral stole with hardanger as a special request. As a member of Messiah Lutheran she became a member of Mary Circle and the Quilters Ministry. She was the eldest (by age) member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo at the time of her death. At the age of 95 she determined that her hip and leg pain necessitated having a hip replacement done. She then moved to Bethany Homes.
Myrtle was a multi-talented woman full of independence and intelligence. A seamstress for herself and others, she also enjoyed quilting for fundraisers and for world ministry, embroidery, knitting, crochet and hardanger. She would knit mittens and/or scarves for Nokomis every year. In 2012 she donated 140 pair of mittens. She liked to stimulate her thinking with math problems and crossword puzzles. When her vision change happened her world narrowed. In 2010 she needed to use oxygen all day. She said the need to rely on others was difficult for her independent spirit. Her faith in God was deep. She was thankful for Sandi, Greg and Samantha Kimmet and their 'adoption' and care the last six years. Her extended family, cousins and friends remained her connection throughout life, especially after the death of her mother. Thank you to her caregivers at Bethany and at Sanford Health. May God bless the memory of this gifted lady.
