Myron Alva Amundson, Fargo, ND, formerly of Bottineau, ND, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, surrounded by family, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND at 91 years of age.
Myron was born on April 3, 1926, to Amund T. Amundson and Amanda M. (Iverson) Amundson. He was the oldest of five children and was raised on the family farm in the Turtle Mountains. He worked on the farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 – 1947. His basic training was in Camp Robinson, Arkansas. His basic training was cut short by a month due to the need to take troops to Germany. He served with the 3rd Army Combat Troop in Germany Proper and came in at the end of the war and saw the prison camps and mass graves. When he returned to the US, he served out the rest of his stay at Ft. Lewis with the 2nd Infantry 15th Field. His rank upon discharge was Tec 3 SGT.
On June 7,1949, Myron married Yvonne Larson at Salem Lutheran Church. They farmed for many years on the family farm in the Turtle Mountains and raised four children. During his farming years, he also was a Bus Driver for the Bottineau School District for many years. After farming, he was employed with Bottineau Cenex as a Bulk Truck Driver. He enjoyed being a bus driver and during Christmas gave each of his bus kids a Christmas gift that he and Yvonne had bought and individually wrapped for each of the kids. On the last day of the school year, he would bring them all to a Dairy Queen for a treat.
Myron and Yvonne loved to travel and when they retired they bought a motor home and spent winters in the south and summers back home in the Midwest. They moved to Fargo, ND in 2005 to be close to family.
Myron enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling. He always looked forward to Annual Family Reunions with his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Bottineau American Legion Post #42, and took great pride in his military service and also the service of his father, three sons, Dean, Donovan, Kevin and grandson Chris. Patriotism was very important to him.
Myron is survived by his three sons, Dean (Linda) Amundson, Aitkin, MN; Donovan (Dawn) Amundson, Tower City, ND; Kevin (Michelle) Amundson, Prior Lake, MN; and one daughter, Delene (Todd) Gunderson, Berthoud, CO; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, as follows: Angie (Simon) Reff, and children Isaiah, Joseph and Micah (Minneapolis, MN); Melissa (Joshua) Lego and children Madelyn, Elias and Amina (Minnetonka, MN); Brenda (Craig) Deuth and children Amelia and Craig (Buddy) (New Market, MN); Chris (Sarah) Amundson and children Cameron and Katelin (Shoreview, MN); Donovan Amundson, Jr. (Greenville, TN) and daughter JanDell (Ben) Joseph and son Caden (ClarksvilleTN); Kjersten (Ross) Huebner and children Ruby, Benny, Brooks and Mack (Grand Forks, ND); Katie Amundson and children Chase and Ella (Fargo, ND); Janna (Jarrod) Kohler and children Quinn, Braydon and Lane (Buffalo, ND); Brittany Feickert and daughter Aubree (Fargo, ND); Zachary Feickert (Denver, CO); Jenessa (Steve) LaBoda and children Charlotte and Reagan (Stillwater, MN); Andrew Amundson (Rome City, IN); Erik Amundson (Prior Lake, MN), Leah Amundson (St. Paul, MN); Lindsay (Mitch) Noltimier and children Lillian, Olivia and Claire (Berthoud, CO) and Ben Gunderson (Washington, D.C.).
He is also survived by his sisters Arlene (Erwin) Johnson (Peoria, AZ); Lorna Boreson (Albuquerque, NM), and Janet (Bill) Hakala (Albuquerque, NM) and four nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne, his parents, and sister Marjorie Geiszler.
A Memorial Service will be held for Myron on Friday, November 17, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at Hanson Runsvold Funeral Home, 215 7th Street South, Fargo, ND 58103. Graveside Service at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th Street, Mandan, ND 58554 at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bottineau American Legion Post #42, 104 N. Main Street, Bottineau, ND 58318 or ND/MN Alzheimer's Association, 7900 West 78th Street, Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55439 or a charitable organization of choice.
