Myrna Birrenkott passed away surrounded by family on January 2, 2022, at Sanford in Fargo, ND.
Myrna Beth Pederson was born on April 25, 1943, to Alvin and Hattie (Bakke) Pederson in Northwood, ND. She attended school and graduated from Northwood. She enjoyed 4H, including showing her prized pigs and sewing. She went to college at UND in Grand Forks, Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and then began her work at the Bell Telephone Company in Fargo, ND.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence Birrenkott on July 11, 1964. They made their home in Fargo. They welcomed Laurel Michelle that same year and Andrea Lynn in 1970. They filled their time with family, friends, bowling leagues, and bingo. You could catch them dancing the night away Saturday, always up and ready for church on Sunday morning.
Myrna’s grandkids were her breath of fresh air. Megan Beth was born in 1989, Emery Lyn came along in 1996, and finally Samuel Ethan in 1998. She gave up her “golden years” before and during her retirement to watch them and shuttle them to school and anywhere else they needed to go.
She retired in 1999 from the phone company but remained in full-time grandma mode. She was their biggest cheerleader and #1 fan, whether it was a soccer game or a violin recital.
She found her greatest joy in being Great Nana. Logan William came along in 2010, Kaden Johann in 2012, and Noah Joseph in 2013. They had her wrapped around their little fingers from day one. She was sure to make it to every baseball, basketball, and football game that she could, cheering them on louder than anyone.
Myrna enjoyed traveling whenever she could, baking her krumkake & many signature treats for others to enjoy, and spending time with her family. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary for all the family / extended family and friends - you’d always receive a card in the mail.
She spent many years volunteering within the church, helping with the Bethlehem Quilting Circle, and still volunteering at the Sons of Norway. Myrna met many great people through those experiences.
She will be missed by anyone who had the joy to have known her.
Blessed be the memory of Myrna Beth.
She is survived by those she loved dearly and who loved her more: her daughters: Laurel Gess, Fargo, and Andrea Birrenkott, Fargo. Grandchildren Megan (John) Larson, Emery Gess, and Samuel Gess. Great-grandsons Logan, Kaden, and Noah Larson. Sisters Audrey Pederson and Ione Leet, brother Alden (Shirley) Pederson. Mary Kosel, John (Sylvia) Birrenkott, Rose Birrenkott and Mike Birrenkott. Also, many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends that will keep her memory alive.
She is welcomed to Heaven by her husband, Lawrence, her parents Alvin and Hattie, and in-laws Joseph and Mary Birrenkott. Also awaiting her are sisters Blanche(Elwood) Sather and Helen(Jude)Cockerill, in-laws: Ralph Leet, Joe Birrenkott, Lavonne Birrenkott, Alvin Kosel, and special friend Douglass Muir. We’re sure she’s delighted to join many other family and friends she has missed dearly.
