Morton James Kent

Mort Kent, 81, of West Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 4, 2023, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo.

Morton James Kent was born on August 26, 1942, in Oconto, WI, to Helen and James W. Kent. He married Mary Jo Benjamin on March 6, 1966, in Rapid City, SD. He worked for SS Kresge, which later became Kmart, for 43 loyal years. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He went on to manage several Kresge and Kmart stores. He was district manager for 13 of those years. He and Jo moved to Arizona after he retired. When his health started to fail, they knew it was time to move back to Fargo to be near family.

He enjoyed fishing and racing with his boys. He drag raced for several years, then got his boys started in circle track racing.

He loved to kid around with his grandchildren. He had so many different sayings that were funny but not always proper. His grandchildren would get a kick out of them and sometimes get in trouble for repeating them at school! He also had funny names for everyone.

The boys have lots of funny stories to tell about their dad, and we all will hold on to the many good memories we had with him here on earth. We know he is resting with Jesus in paradise now, and we all know we will see him again one day.

Mort is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his sons, Mike (Terri) Kent of Fargo, ND, and Allen (Laurie) Kent of West Fargo, ND; his grandchildren, Brady, Cassidee, Dayton, and Benny; his brothers, James E. (Mary) Kent, of Rapid City, SD, Bruce (Delores) Butler of Lena, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a chapel service for friends in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas at Hope Lutheran Church 3636 25th St S, on October 17, 2023, at 4 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life visitation on Oct 22, 2023 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Minot, ND, 3705 11th St SW, from 2-4pm. Please join us to share your memories of Mort.
