Mildred Meidinger, 83, of West Fargo, died September 30, 2012, at Sheyenne Crossing Care Center in West Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Mildred was born August 16, 1929 in rural Wishek, ND, to Martha and Jacob Nies. She married Thomas Meidinger on November 16, 1948.
Millie and Tom farmed in rural Wishek from 1948 until 1956 when they moved to Wishek where Millie worked at the Wishek Hospital until 1967. After moving to Jamestown, she worked at the Anne Carlson School for one year and then at the Jamestown Hospital until her retirement. Mildred and Tom moved to Fargo in 2008.
Millie loved to read and to visit neighbors and friends in nursing homes. She was known for her Christmas goodies – especially the kuchen that was distributed around the neighborhood. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She would invite those who were going to be alone to join in her family celebration.
Millie truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved the times that they would come and stay. She also loved spending time with Tom and they went on numerous trips together. They also loved to play pinochle and whist. Her faith in God was very important to her and she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo.
Mildred is survived by her husband Tom; children Carolyn Prante of Fargo, Dean (Debi) Meidinger of Lathrop, CA, and Wayne Meidinger of Colton, SD; three grandchildren Matthew (Samantha) Beshear of Fargo, Katrina (Clark) Mitchell of York, NE, and Kristen (Jared) Sage of Vermillion, SD; great-granddaughter Kiera of York, NE; and brother Elmer Nies of Bemidji, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents Martha and Jacob Nies; sister Irene Bitz; and brothers Willie and Gary Nies.
