Cherished Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, and Friend, Michael Wayne Montgomery, 66, of Fargo, ND has gone home to be with his loving Savior and Lord. Mike was born on October 18, 1951 in Grand Forks, ND to Robert and LaVonne (Lee) Montgomery. His life was completed on March 26, 2018.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and friendships.
He was man of God and dedicated his life to serving the Lord and encouraging others to love Jesus Christ. Mike joined the staff of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Grand Forks, ND in 1985. As a Youth Pastor, his mission trips contended with forest fires in Canada and mudslides in Mexico. By God’s grace, everyone arrived home safely each time, though Mike affectionately became known as the “Pastor of Disaster.” His service at Salem Evangelical Free Church in Fargo, ND, and Pulse Ministries in Minneapolis, MN, brought Mike some of his deepest joys in the last years of his life.
The love of his life and spouse of 44 years, Joan Montgomery, went home to be with the Lord in August 2016. Mike’s children, grandchildren, and siblings will miss the humor and wisdom that he offered freely and sometimes excessively. He went on fishing trips with his sons and had a tradition of breakfast dates with his daughter. Mike had endless energy and love for his grandchildren. His four brothers and two sisters meant the world to him.
Mike loved to golf, loved to talk and also loved to listen. He will be remembered for the way he prized his family and friends and all those he had yet to meet who would become friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Joan and father, Robert Montgomery. He is survived by his three children, Chad (Morganna) Montgomery, Marcus Montgomery, and Shannon (Tim) Demant; grandchildren, Joshua, Katelyn and Janae Demant; his mother, LaVonne Montgomery; siblings, Kathy Carl, Robert (Nita) Montgomery, Nancy Endres, Dan (Martha) Montgomery, Scott (Kathy) Montgomery and Tom (Michelle) Montgomery.
