Melvin A. Wolff

Melvin A. Wolff, 81 of Fargo, ND died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Elim Nursing Home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Melvin (Sonny) was born April 9, 1931 in Danzig, ND to parents Gottlieb and Francis (Helmer) Wolff. After the death of his father, the family relocated to Lehr, ND when Melvin was 9. He attended school there and enjoyed playing basketball when he wasn’t busy working on farms.
While in Lehr, Melvin married his childhood friend, Lucille Goebel, on December 27, 1950. They continued to live and work on the family farm until moving to Fargo in 1955. Melvin worked various jobs in Fargo and retired after many years as a warehouse manager at Sears.

During his life, Melvin loved to hunt, fish, and spend time at their cabin on Little Pelican Lake. He enjoyed his friends, neighbors, and family and loved to play his “squeeze box” (accordion) to entertain them. One of his hobbies was smoking fish and sharing it with his neighbors. Melvin had his own way to fix and repair things.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fargo.

This past year, Melvin’s health declined after multiple surgeries; he fought until the end. Melvin will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Patty (Gary) Baem of Mapleton, ND; grandchildren, Nicole Baem of Fargo, ND, and Tyler Baem of Mapleton, ND; great-grandson, Quentin Yellow Bird of Fargo, ND; and son, Dr. Terry Wolff, along with his two children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lucille; two brothers and three sisters.
