Melvin Miller

Melvin “Donald” J. Miller age 84 of Fargo died peacefully December 8, 2011 at Essentia Hospital, Fargo surrounded by his family. Melvin was born on October 12, 1927 to Julius & Alma Miller in Pelican Rapids, MN. His family moved to Fargo where he spent the remainder of his life. Melvin joined the Naval Reserve in 1943 at 16 years old where he served in the South Pacific on PT boat, discharged in 1945. Melvin married the love of his life Shirley Adeline Kosen on November 3, 1950. Melvin & Shirley were blessed with 5 children: Rebecca (Robert) Buzby, Las Vegas, NV; Donald (Teri) Miller, Redding, CA; Susan Jones & her fiancée (John Thompson), Fargo; Pamela (Jon) Regula, Fargo; Kari (Naji) Al-Khafaji, Moorhead. Melvin spent the majority of his life working as an over the road long haul trucker. For the later part of his career he was proud to be an owner-operator of his International Transport semi truck. He was known by all to have the cleanest semi around! Melvin retired from trucking in 1990. After the death of his beloved wife Shirley in 1999 he returned to trucking with Berg Grain & Produce upon the request of his life long friend Arnie Berg. The last few years of his life Melvin was cared for by his daughters Susan & Pamela in their homes. During the day Melvin attended Rosewood Adult Daycare Program which he lovingly referred to as “his school”. Melvin is survived by his sister Marilyn “Marlene” Jensen his grandchildren: Christopher Finke, Michelle Messick, Nathan (Kim) Finke, Nicole Imasuen, Sarah, Showell & Seth Buzby, JJ & Lincoln Regula, many nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Julius & Alma Miller, brothers Gordon & LeRoy Miller, grandsons Christopher Miller, Chisum Davis, granddaughter Mia Messick, & his beloved wife Shirley. Funeral: Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 1:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, officiated by Rev. Dwight Meier. Visitation: Monday, December 12, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
