Melford Nelson

Melford C. Nelson 84, of Fargo died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010at MeritCare Palliative Care in Fargo, ND. Melford was born March 21, 1925, on a farm near Forman, ND, the second youngest son of Charles and Amelia Nelson. He had three sisters and six brothers. Mel attended school at Rutland Consolidated and moved to Fargo in 1946. On October 27, 1949, he married Beverly Mae Malstrom at Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo. Melford built a house at 13th Avenue and 15th Street South around 1950, where they spent their married lives together with their three children. Beverly died May 7, 2001. After moving to Fargo, he was employed as a mechanic for Konen Cab Company for about five years. He then worked as a mechanic for Ed Schum Pontiac until 1956. He worked for Service Chevrolet and Muscatell Chevrolet as a truck mechanic until 1968. Melford was then hired by the City of Fargo as a mechanic and field maintenance supervisor at Hector International Airport. From there, he retired in 1989. Melford is survived by his chidren; Gail (Robert) Farnum, Ft. Collins, CO; Greg (Gerry) Nelson, West Fargo, ND.; Linda (Scott) Bartholomay, Sabin, MN; grandchildren Chelsey (Jordan) Harrison, Angela Nelson, Rachel Farnum, Riley (Ashley Yochim) Nelson, Molly Aamold, Michael Aamold, Ellie Bartholomay and great-grandchild, Gabriella Nelson; his brother, Arlow (Mary) Nelson, Mandan, ND; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; three sisters and five of his brothers. Funeral Service: Friday, January 8, 2010, at 11:00, at Elim Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Prayer Service: Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
