Mavis Ruth (Vander Velde) Fillner, 89, passed away September 29, 2013 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.
Mavis was born July 13, 1924 near Holmen, WI to Matt and Ruth (Aspeslet) Vander Velde. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Galesville, WI. After graduation, Mavis moved to Milwaukee, WI and worked at Allis-Chalmers for 9 years.
Mavis met her future husband, Albert Fillner, while in Milwaukee. They were married on June 30, 1951 in Galesville, WI and moved to Fargo where Al was employed. They have two sons, Paul (Cindy) of Portland, OR; and Marc (Mitzi) of Fargo; 4 grandchildren: Sean Fillner, Christina (Brooke) Turner, Corey (Karen) Fillner of Portland, OR; and Jace Fillner (Melissa Schulz) of Fargo; and 4 great-granddaughters: Lillian, Emma, Rachel, and Lauren.
Mavis enjoyed her years working at Carol Widman Candy Company making "Chippers". She also loved to play Bingo, a variety of crafts, going shopping, and going on "day trips", and was an avid reader. She loved to visit and was always kind to everyone she met. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother and will be missed by all.
