Mary Jane Bass

Mary Jane Bass, 91, of Fargo, ND, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, at her home. Mary Jane was born December 19, 1918, in Russell in central Montana. She graduated from high school in Fort Benton, Montana. She attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana for two years and then attended and graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula. She attended graduate school at the University of Washington. She taught in high schools in Scoby and Stevensville, Montana and Cathlamet, Washington and also taught at the University of Montana. In 1945, she married Stewart Bass and they lived in Missoula, Montana where Mr. Bass worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. In 1959, they moved to Denver, Colorado with the company and in 1973, moved with the company to Fargo North, Dakota. She did much volunteer work in her church in Denver, particularly with children in the church pre-school classes. She did volunteer work with her children's school and served in the school lunch programs. Her main job was being good mother and wife, at which she did a terrific job. Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Stewart Bass; her children, Kathy (Herman) Metzger of Climax, MN and Jim (Julie) Bass of Iowa City, IA; a sister-in-law, Harriett Brust of Logan, IA; three grandchildren, Mike (Jessica) Metzger of Elizabeth, MN, Laura (Jeffery) Bell of East Grand Forks, MN and Addie Bass of Iowa City, IA; and four great-grandchildren, Brady, Claire, Ben and Ivy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy & Jennie (Howell) Brust; a son, Brian Bass; and her brother, Robert Brust. Memorial Service: Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church in Fargo. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment: At a later date.
