Mary Marsden

Mary Marsden, 85, of Moorhead, MN (formerly Fargo, ND) died Friday, October 2, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Mary was born June 8, 1924 to J. Gordon “Mick” and Bessie (Elliot) McKenzie on the family farm near Grandin, ND. She grew up and graduated from Grandin High School. She attended Chaffee Junior College in Ontario, CA, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Hendrum, MN. She met and married Jim Marsden June 8, 1947 in Grandin, ND. They lived in Waterloo, IA, Jamestown, ND, Mandan, ND moving to Fargo in 1953. They moved to Eventide in 2005. Mary’s family and her friends were the center of her life. She lovingly created keepsakes for them with her knitting and other talents. She is survived by her husband, Jim Marsden, Moorhead, MN; son, Richard (Beth) Marsden, Fargo, ND; daughter, Mary Jane Martens, West Fargo, ND; and brother, John “Jack” Elliot (Bella) McKenzie, Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Chris (Erica) Marsden, Amy Marsden, Chad (Jenny) Marsden and Jim Martens; great-grandchildren, Owen, Lucy and Gavin Marsden. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James; sister, Maxine Heihn and son-in-law, Phil Martens. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Eventide for their loving care the last four years. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Eventide Foundation, First Presbyterian Church of Fargo and the American Diabetes Association.
