Mary Lou Ladwig

November 28, 1939 — August 31, 2018

Mary Lou Ladwig passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2018 after beating the odds for many years.

Mary Lou was born November 28, 1939 in Astoria, Oregon to Leonard and Marie Dobler. She was raised and educated in North Dakota. She graduated from West Fargo High in 1957. Mary Lou married Curtis Ladwig on March 24, 1962.

Mary Lou took pride in her work as a bookkeeper. She started by helping her parents with bookkeeping at Dobler Trailer Sales in West Fargo. In her adult life she worked at General Motors Acceptance and Consolidated Insurance. There she made lasting friendships.

In 1966, Mary Lou and husband Curt started a locksmith company, Curt’s Lock & Key Service. Curt told her that she would only have to work until he got the business on its feet. Mary Lou continued to work for 54 years at Curt’s Lock & Key Service until her final working days in April 2018. She worked with pride at the business that became a family business including their three children.

Mary Lou kept her mind sharp by continuing to work, remaining social with family, friends, employees & customers, and keeping current with the news. Family meals were important to her, whether they were enjoyed at local restaurants or shared with the German recipes she handed down. She also loved to read, watch “Days of Our Lives”, and going to Starbucks.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband Curtis, sons, Todd Ladwig of Fargo, ND, James Ladwig of Argusville, ND, daughter Sheryl (Dave) Dusek of Fargo, ND, and grandchildren Gabe and Hunter Dusek.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Linda Chapman and an infant son, Keith Ladwig.

Mary Lou and her family were greatly cared for by Hospice of the Red River Valley during her final months.
