Marvin John Swan

November 4, 1930 — August 30, 2014

Marvin John Swan was born November 4, 1930, to parents John and Annie Swan in Beach, ND. He graduated from Beach High School and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity.

Marvin married Phyllis Renee Thompson on October 5, 1958, in Oakes, ND. They made their home in Fargo and raised three daughters. Marvin began his career at Leo Lumber and Merchants National Bank before starting his own tax service business named Marco Tax Service. He later retired from banking and trust work in 1989.

He and his family enjoyed their lake home on Lake Lida for more than 35 years. His many interests included fishing, watching his extensive collection of John Wayne movies and reading. He enjoyed his many friends he met during his long time membership in the Optimists International Service Club and in later years the times he and Phyllis volunteered out in Medora, ND. He and Phyllis were active members of First Lutheran Church and he enjoyed his friends in the Thursday Men’s Club.

Marvin passed away on August 30, 2014 at the age of 84. He died peacefully at Bethany Homes in Fargo under the loving care of his family, friends and the nursing staff of both Bethany on 42nd and Hospice of the Red River Valley. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three daughters, Karla Swan, Lisa (John) Wood of Austin, TX and Brenda Swan of Eagan, MN; three grandchildren, Ashley, Bailey and Jack Wood; His brother Jerome (Jan) of Bellingham, WA; his sister-in-law, Marjorie Thompson of San Antonio, TX and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
