Marvin Theodore Nordbo

Marvin T. Nordbo, 87, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.

Marvin was born February 19, 1926 at Hatton, ND to Aslak and Sophia (Midboe) Nordbo. He attended grade school at rural Hatton and graduated from Northwood, ND high school in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the USS Goshen, USS Dyess and USS Boston. Upon returning, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College, Fargo, graduating with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education in June 1950. After that he taught vocational agriculture education at Carrington, ND high school and veterans’ agriculture education at Hillsboro, ND. He married Ardelle Hansen in 1951. In 1952 he joined the ND Extension Service of NDSU and served as county agriculture agent at Burke County, Bowbells, ND until 1955, when he returned to NDSU for graduate school; receiving his Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics in 1957. He was an assistant professor in the Agriculture Economics Department at NDSU, teaching and doing research with the Tennessee Valley Authority. In 1963 he joined the Trust Department at First National Bank Fargo. He received his diploma from National Graduate Trust School, Kellogg School, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in 1973. He retired as Senior Trust Officer from Wells Fargo Bank-Fargo in 1987. After retiring, he formed MTM Co. Farm Land Management which he ran until 1991. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Northwest Farm Managers, American Legion and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed attending USS Goshen reunions.

Marvin was confirmed at the Goose River Lutheran Church, Hatton, ND and a member of First Lutheran Church, Fargo since 1955, having been an usher, sunday school teacher, and served on the Boards of Education, Deacons, and Trustees, and was vice president and president of the congregation.

He is survived by his wife, Ardelle; son, John Nordbo of Madison, Wisconsin; and two grandchildren, Ian and Aidan Nordbo; brother, Olaf Nordbo, Northwood, ND and a sister, Artha Travers, Grafton, ND; two nephews, Mark Korsmo, Northwood, ND and James Travers, Devils Lake, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Borghild Korsmo.
