Martha Opdahl

Martha Opdahl, 98, of Fargo, ND, died Friday, September 10, 2010, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo. Martha C. Rebelski was born May 8, 1912, in Geneseo, North Dakota, daughter of John and Johanna (Ochocki) Rebelski. She grew up and attended rural school and at the age of 82, she received her GED. Martha married Elmer J. Opdahl March 4, 1928, in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Martha worked as a waitress at the Dinty Moore Café in Lisbon, North Dakota. She was also the cook for a dormitory at the University of Washington in Seattle, retiring in 1974, after 11 years. Martha’s main occupation was running their household and raising their six sons and three daughters. Martha is survived by her children, Robert E. Opdahl, Fargo, ND; Margory L. Hildebrant, Fargo, ND; Mavis Brantner, Fargo, ND; Gerald J. (Gretchen) Opdahl, Graham, WA; sister, Julia Zaspel,Tacoma, WA; 26 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, who died October 31, 1989; sons, Donald, Elmer, James and Curt; and daughter, Lucille Schelkoph; her parents; and sisters, Anna Olson, Francis Castle, Rose Young, Elizabeth Syler, Helen Gallagher; brothers, Mike Rebelski and Joseph Rebelski. Funeral Service: Thursday, September 16, 2010, at 1:00 PM, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, September 15, 2010, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Burial: Memory Gardens, Valley City, North Dakota.
