Haggart, Marjorie Alice Rinde
Marge died February 11, 2025, after a fall in early January 2025. She was 97. She was born to Ethel (Miller) and Nicholas Rinde in 1927. “Margie” was in glee club and a cheerleader at Hoople High School, in Hoople, ND. She went on to graduate from UND in English but was not hired as a teacher because she was married. She married college sweetheart Bill Haggart on December 18, 1948. Marge worked at a bank while Bill finished college after returning from WWII.
They moved to Fargo, ND, and raised four children. Marge was involved in various ministries at Gethsemane Cathedral—choir, teaching Sunday school, altar guild, church bazaars, and so on. She enjoyed her girlfriends playing bridge and pinochle into her 90s. Marge enjoyed her time at Pelican Lake despite not being a good swimmer—she kept her head above water! (Hoople did not have a pool.)
She enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great grandkids very much. She also looked forward to road trips with Bill and their good college friends Tom and Mary Scully. Marge was a regular attendee at the Fargo Moorhead Symphony and also attended live theatre. She secretly wanted to be an actress but said she was not brave enough. She had a nice singing voice and would harmonize with her daughter on many occasions—one time singing all the way in the car from Fargo to Bozeman, MT. She even sang Christmas carols in December 2024.
Marge was adept at sewing, cooking, setting a lovely table, and putting wild flowers in tiny vases to welcome guests at the lake cottage.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Nic Rinde; husband, William “Bill” L. Haggart; siblings, Dorothy (Reed) Zimmerman, Joyce (Vincent) Lowe, Robert (Betty) Rinde, James H. Rinde; nephew, Jimmy Zimmerman; niece, Ruth Ann (Rinde) Lawrence; special friend, Jim Johnston; and son-in-law, Stanley Gordon.
She is survived by children, W. Todd (Ann) Haggart, Ann Gordon, Thomas R. (Janice) Haggart, and Virginia Haggart (Ned Sorley); 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Rinde; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Gethsemane Cathedral, 3600 25th St. S., Fargo, ND 58104, FM Symphony, or The Fargo Public Library.
