MarJean Currie, age 81, of Fargo, ND, passed away on October 25, 2023, at Bethany on University.
MarJean Arlit Thompson was born on January 24, 1942, in Breckenridge, MN, to Helmer and Clara (Spelhaug) Thompson. She lived on the family farm outside of Walcott, ND, for her first six years. The family later moved to Wyndmere, ND, where MarJean attended school. After that, the family moved back to the farm, and MarJean attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School, graduating in 1960.
After high school, she enrolled at Augustana College for their nursing program, then transferred to Fergus Falls Junior College, and then to Moorhead State University, where she graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in German.
MarJean started out as a stay-at-home mom, caring for her sons Shawn and Scott. She held jobs later at First Lutheran Church and Eventide Nursing Home. She was also very active with church groups. Her life was dedicated to giving to others.
Giving also extended to pets. There was always one, sometimes more, cats in MarJean’s life, which gave her great comfort.
MarJean’s favorite pastimes growing up were riding in the pickup with her dad whenever he went somewhere, steering the tractor by herself on the farm, and roller skating.
Later in life, she enjoyed going to Florida Panther Hockey Games with her son Shawn and Oak Grove volleyball and basketball games with her son Scott.
Baking was an activity that MarJean did throughout her life. She always made sure that everyone she loved had a birthday cake that she had created.
MarJean enjoyed traveling, including places such as New York City, Winnipeg, Medora, Duluth, the Twin Cities, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Michigan, Florida, and Japan.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, which she was very proud of.
She is survived by her sons, Shawn Currie (Kumiko Nagayama), Coral Springs, FL, and Scott Currie, Walcott, ND; grandchildren, Joshua Currie, Orlando, FL, and Jacob Currie, Coral Springs, FL; and her former husband, H. Allan Currie, West Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helmer Thompson and Clara Thompson.
