Marion Pickar, age 85, passed away after a long battle with cancer on July 17, 2012.
Marion Carol Shiek was born to Frank and Hattie (Boyer) Shiek in Litchville, ND, on October 8, 1926. She moved to Fargo at 6 months old and attended Fargo Central High School. She went to work clerking when World War II broke out and did this for 30 years.
She married Morris Woodrow Lattimore on June 9, 1946, and they moved to Mandan, ND in 1953. Marion enjoyed playing softball with the Fargo Twinettes for several years. They went to National Finals in San Antonio, TX in 1950. In 1949, they took second in state and in 1952, they took second in regional play.
Morris passed away May 17, 1966. Marion moved back to Fargo in August of 1969. She worked at the Ben Franklin Store until 1973. Marion married Peter J. Pickar on November 3, 1973. They farmed at Pillsbury, ND until retirement. Marion enjoyed the peaceful life that she had on the farm, as she enjoyed the outdoors and loved to ice fish.
She is survived by her husband, Peter J. Pickar, Fargo, ND; her three sons, Marvin Lattimore, Columbia Falls, MT; Greg (Marlene) Lattimore, Mandan, ND; and Mark (Brenda) Lattimore, Fargo, ND; brothers, Gary (Betty) Shiek, ND and Robert (Kathy) Shiek, MO; sisters, Bette (Earl) Hanson, Cooperstown, ND and Gail Larson, MN; sister-in-law Mary Shiek, FL; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Morris Lattimore, her brothers, Eugene, George, Darold, and sister, Donna.
