Marilyn Joan Zabilka (89) passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospital on June 17, 2020 in Fargo, ND.
Marilyn was born September 21, 1930 to Clifford and Mary Ward in Cedar Rapids, IA. She graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA with a Bachelor of Science in Education, where she went on to teach elementary students in both Wyoming and Iowa.
On December 20, 1952 Marilyn married the love of her life, William Zabilka in Cedar Rapids, IA. Marilyn and her husband started their family shortly after and raised three children together in Clinton, IA.
There was nothing more important to Marilyn than her family and she was the glue that held everyone together. Family dinners were a priority for Marilyn, as she enjoyed making a home cooked meal and having everyone around the table.
Marilyn and William spent their summer vacations traveling with their three children across the country. In her retirement, Marilyn and her husband enjoyed taking cruises and travelling internationally, as well as spending winters on the Gulf Coast in Texas. Through all of her travels, Marilyn would always remember to share every detail from her adventures.
One thing everyone will remember about Marilyn is her love for playing cards and reading. She enjoyed playing Bridge with close friends and couples, as well as teaching her children and grandchildren her favorite card games.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Zabilka, and her parents, Clifford and Mary Ward.
Marilyn is survived by her children Mary (Bruce) Beisel Warroad, MN; Mark Zabilka, Allen, TX; Cindy (C.T.) Marhula, Bemidji, MN; her sister, Leanne Goodenough; brother, Jim Ward; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
