The Sibley family mourns the passing of Marian Elizabeth Sibley on Saturday morning, May 30, 2015 in Fargo.
Marian was born on the family farm in Englevale, North Dakota, on May 22, 1917 to Philip and Mary (Stroh) Dick.
Marian graduated from Englevale High School, and attended Valley City State College.
In 1941 Marian married Richard T. Sibley, her husband for 65 years. They lived for a time in Cooperstown, North Dakota, and later in LaMoure where they lived for 21 years and raised their 3 children. During this time, Marian taught elementary students in Grand Rapids and Berlin.
In 1968, the couple moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, where Marian taught first grade for 13 years at Lincoln, Washington and Probtsfield Elementary Schools. She also completed master’s degree work at Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
Marian was an active member of The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Eastern Star, Optimist Club, and Minnesota Retired Teachers. She was a lonely democrat in a republican family. She was an avid card player, took delight in her flower garden, and was the family’s baker—pies, cabbage buns, cookies, divinity, caramel rolls, fudge.
She will best be remembered as a devoted family member and a steadfast friend.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Philip and Mary, brothers Lawrence, William and Elmer, and sisters Dora McDaniel, Emma Kenyon and Ruth Haun. She is survived by her brother George.
Among those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Richard (Bonnie), Judith Sinclair, Steven (Carol) Sibley; her five grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Benjamin (Aurore), Brooke (Kyle Parrish) and Stephanie (Luke Levandowski); her seven great grandchildren, Molly, Jacob, Orion, Kaitlyn, Grant, Elena and Henry,
and many treasured extended family members and friends.
The family asks that any donations in Marian’s memory be sent to: The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, 1900 14 St. So., Moorhead, Minnesota 56560, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 306 Third St., Englevale, North Dakota 58033.
