Margaret Ann Sandsmark, 98, Fargo, ND died Wednesday April 23, 2025, at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.
Margaret was born in Hillsboro, ND, April 3, 1927, to Anton and Caroline (Eken) Sundby. She grew up on the family farm in Norway Township, Traill County, ND. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1945.
She married Donald Sandsmark on October 28, 1945, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, ND. It was the first wedding in the church after the end of World War II. She and Don moved to Fargo and raised three sons. They were charter members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Margaret taught Sunday school, was active in bible study, choir, Properties Board, and Elizabeth Circle (Altar Guild). She and Don were long-time custodians at Bethlehem Lutheran on two different occasions. She also sold real estate at Bell Realty and worked at Nodak Mutual Insurance Company.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Richard (Mary Kay) Sandsmark, Lengby, MN, William (Dianna) Sandsmark, and James (Suzanne) Sandsmark, both of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Hoffman, Jessica Bentley, Matthew (Sara) Hoffman, Sally Chambers, Danielle Sandsmark (Benjamin Persofsky), Lindsay (Scott) Nerger, Michael (Kelsey) Sandsmark, Katherine Sandsmark (Samuel Reid), Erin Sandsmark; twenty-one great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sandsmark; her parents, Anton and Caroline Sundby; brothers, Palmer Sundby and Anton "Swede" Sundby, Jr.; sister, Lois Morsch Sobolik, Half-brother Charles Cooper; sisters-in-law, Isabel Sundby, Rose Sundby, Ruth Sundby; brothers-in-law, George Morsch and Manes "Whitey" Sobolik; and granddaughter, Michelle Sandsmark.
Margaret's family wishes to thank the staff at Bethany on University and Sanford Hospice for all the wonderful care she received.
Service will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with lunch to follow.
Visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
Internment at Riverside Cemetery following the service.
