On February 15, 2025, Margaret (Peggy) Armstrong-Law passed away peacefully at age 94, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born in Fargo, N.D, on January 21, 1931, to Theron and Besse Armstrong. She graduated from Fargo Central High School and earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from NDSU, completing further studies at the Principals' Center at Harvard University (London), Principals Training Center (Rome, Italy), Michigan State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Margaret married Robert Law in 1952 and divorced in 1963. Margaret was devoted to family and passionate about education. She was proceeded in death by her parents and 4 siblings, Dorothy Millar, Elizabeth Borman, Elgene Graves and brother Dr. William Armstrong. Margaret is survived by her children William Law (Sandy), Anne Buckingham (William) and Amy Atkinson (Curt). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren Allison, Kathryn, Nick, Ian, Devin, Megan and Stephanie and 5 great-grandchildren.
While an undergraduate at NDSU, she was president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, member of Phi Kappa Phi, Guidon Senior Staff, Who's Who in American Colleges/Universities and selected as a Representative senior in 1952. Margaret taught English in the Fargo Public School for nine years and was named teacher of the year in 1970-71. She also served as the Assistant Principal at Fargo North High for 4 years. Interested in working in an international environment, Margaret moved abroad in 1978 and served as the Principal of Taipei American School (1978-1987), Secondary Head of Vienna International School (1987-1990) and Director of International School of Amsterdam (1990-1997). While in Amsterdam, she was also a member and chairman of the European Council of International Schools, president of Rotary Club- Amsterdam International and member of de Amsterdamsche Kring. Margaret was awarded ECIS Honorary Membership and an award for ECIS Service to International Education in 1997. She traveled extensively in Asia, Europe, Asia, South America and in the U.S.
During retirement, she really enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had been a board member of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at NDSU, President's Advisory Board MSUM, Fine Arts Club, FM Opera Board and the World Peace Committee (UK and the Netherlands).
There will be a funeral service in the spring and a private family service will be held following that at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, Doctors Without Borders, NDSU Performing Arts or a charity of your choice. We also want to extend a thank you to the wonderful team at Hospice of the Red River Valley for their considerate care.
