Mable E. Dougherty, our amazing and adorable mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to all, passed away quietly on March 3, 2008, under the care of hospice in Mesa, Arizona. Mable was born on a farm near Hannaford, N.D., on June 15, 1907, the sixth child of Frank and Frances Ableman. Eventually settling in Fargo, Mable worked diligently raising three beloved children, Rose, George, and Barbara. Later years were spent in Alaska, Washington, and Arizona, and finally in 2000, Mable returned to Fargo where she delighted in her family and friends, trips to the casino, playing countless games of cards and dice, or watching a baseball game. Though small in stature, she profoundly touched all those around her with a huge heart full of love, joy, and friendship. She is survived by her loving family; children, Rose and John Ohnstad, George and Phyllis Matthiensen, Barbara Petersen, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and scores and scores of friends.
