Lyle Paulson, 79, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.
Lyle was born in Carrington, ND on May 27, 1936 to Alvin & Pearl (Wobbema) Paulson.
Lyle attended Carrington High School and was very active in Band, Boys Glee Club, and Choir. He also sang in a quartet, and that same year, Lyle won a 1st Place award in State competition for his solo singing abilities in Bismarck, ND. He was also a good athlete, lettering in Football and Basketball in his Junior and Senior year.
During school Lyle worked for Wenaas Grocery Store in Carrington. He graduated from high school in 1956, and went on to Valley City State College where he wanted to become a teacher. After his first substitute teaching experience in Cuba, ND, he found this wasn’t going to be his carrier path.
In 1957 Lyle moved back to Carrington and started working for the Farmers Union Co-Op, and then moved on to manage the Jamestown Auto Parts Store in Carrington. Business and people are what Lyle enjoyed.
On August 31, 1958 Lyle married Joyce Zink, and he continued to manage Jamestown Auto Parts. In 1962, Lyle and Joyce moved their young family to Fargo, where he had the opportunity to start his own Standard Oil Service Station, Interstate Standard, which he operated until January of 1981. In February of 1981 an opportunity arose for him to go to work for I-29 Standard, where he worked until November 10, 1985. The company was sold and Lyle stayed employed with the new company, Dave’s I-29 Amoco, until his retirement in 1998.
During Lyle’s time with Standard Oil, he and Joyce traveled on vacation in and out of the USA. Their most memorable trip was to Alaska on a cruise with his brother Gerald and his wife Cathy, his sister, Doris, and her husband, Don Workentine.
Lyle and Joyce were members of the Eagles Club in Fargo, were they spent many Friday nights dancing and listening to the music. They also spent a lot of time with friends and neighbors playing cards. There was never a dull moment with Lyle around.
After retirement Lyle and Joyce spent most of their weekends at their lake place on Tamarac Lake. The lake quickly became the hub for many gatherings with their lake neighbors, kids, grandkids, and several family reunions. On Sunday afternoons, the radio was on in the garage, tuned to Polka Party, and you better not touch or change the channel.
Lyle’s favorite lake saying while watching the sunset and drinking a Busch Light was “It Don’t Get Any Better Than This”.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; four children, Dave (Darla) Paulson, Fargo, ND; Mark (Nancy) Paulson, Wolverton, MN; Scott Paulson (fiancée Lynn Klein), Fargo, ND; and Jeanine Paulson, Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Cathy) Paulson, Carrington, ND; sisters, Doris (Don) Workentine, Sturgis, SD; and Denise (Dan) Schuchard, Carrington, ND; sisters-in-law, Judy Greene, Fargo, ND; and Marlene (Duane) Anderson, Fargo, ND; brothers-in-law, Charles Larson, Crookston, MN; Richard Zink, Carrington, ND; and Merlin (Elaine) Zink, Baker, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
