Lucy Roehrich

September 30, 1917 — August 15, 2009

Lucy Roehrich, 91, went Home on Saturday August 15, 2009 while at Elim Nursing Home. She had been living at Arbor Park in Moorhead up until a week ago when she became very ill. Lucy Zimmerman was born at her family’s farm near Streeter, ND to Jacob and Katherine (Pfeifle) Zimmerman on September 30, 1917. She attended the rural school near her home. On November 13, 1940 she married Ed Roehrich in Sheldon, N.D. Together they eventually moved to Fargo, ND. She and Ed worked various jobs together until the birth of their daughter and only child in 1948. In 1960 Lucy started to work for her sister Katie, and then went on to cook at the Cass County Hospital, NDSU, Highway Host and Frasier Hall as well as several other places. She was a founding member of Metropolitan Baptist Church where she worshipped for the past 31 years. She was involved in several different ministries within the church during this time. Church was a very integral part of her life, so Sunday’s was her favorite day. Lucy is survived by her daughter Karen (Arlan) Waters, Detroit Lakes, MN, grandchildren, Andrew, Vail, Colorado & Erin, St. Paul, MN, as well as 2 sisters, Lillian, Fargo, ND, Lenore, Jamestown, ND and 3 brothers Elmer ( Shirley), Bismarck, ND, Leon (Gladys), Napoleon, ND and Marvin (Gail), Moorhead, MN. She had numerous nieces and nephews of whose company she greatly enjoyed. A good day for Lucy was one where she could bake, especially for her grandchildren, or one where she could serve a good meal to anyone who sat at her table. Recently she gifted her treasured handwritten cookbooks to her granddaughter who turned around and surprised her grandma with a batch of cookies right out of her own recipes. Isn’t God’s plan amazing! Funeral Service: Tuesday, August 18, 2009, 1:30PM at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to services at the church. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
