Lucille Smith, 100, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND. Lucille was born at Buffalo, ND, to James and Lottie (Baker) Scott on March 9, 1908. She grew up in Buffalo and attended school and the Presbyterian Church in Buffalo. Her parents were farmers. After her mother died on November 11, 1922, Lucille quit school, after two months into her freshman year at Buffalo High School, to keep house for her father and two younger brothers. Lucille married Harry G. Smith of Alice, ND, on November 29, 1928. They farmed at Alice, ND, and later, they farmed in the Wheatland, ND, area until 1952, when they moved to Fargo because of her husband’s failing health. They later moved to Moorhead, MN, where they owned and operated “Tally Ho” Apartments for several years. Several years after her husband’s death in 1972, Lucille moved back to Fargo. In August 1999, she moved to Bethany Homes Assisted Living, Fargo, and in 2006, she moved to Bethany Cares. She was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, Marvin; her son-in-law, E. Charles Hanson; a great granddaughter, Samantha Smith; a half-sister, Gladys (J. Walter) Wadeson; a half-brother, Robert Scott of Buffalo; and two brothers, Lindsay T. Scott and Myrl J. Scott, both of Fargo. Lucille is survived by six sons, one daughter and one daughter-in-law. Melvin (Betty) and Manard (Judy) of San Diego, CA; Marlow and Merlon (Maggie) of Wheatland, ND; Milton of Rockford, IL; Mahlon (Laurie) of Bowman, ND; Mavis Hanson of Fargo, ND, and Phyllis Smith of Dallas, TX. She also leaves a brother-in-law, Ralph Smith of Casselton, ND; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral: Monday, July 14, 2008, at 10:00 AM, at Plymouth Congregational Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Sunday, July 13, 2008, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Prayer Service: Sunday, July 13, 2008, at 7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Riverside Mausoleum, Fargo, ND.
