Lowell (Tony) Delano Brenneman, 79, of Fargo, ND passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at home, surrounded by his loved ones, after a 2 year battle with Leukemia.
Tony was born on July 13, 1935 in Manchester, Pennsylvania to Chauncey and Edith (Schindle) Brenneman. He graduated from Manchester High in 1953 and began working full time at Daubers Nursery. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 18, 1955 and was stationed in South Dakota, Newfoundland, Missouri, New York, Alaska, California and Fargo, where he retired after a 20 year career.
While Tony was stationed in South Dakota he met and married “the love of his life”, Gwen M. Raile. They were married in Rapid City, SD on July 19, 1958. After Tony retired from the Air Force in 1975, they made their permanent home in Fargo. Tony began his second career at Butler Machinery holding several positions and retired in 1995 after 20 years.
Tony was a faithful “Philly” fan and enjoyed cheering them on in all sports. His true passion was baseball, whether it was watching or playing. He played slowpitch softball for many years for Moose Lodge and Fargo Ford Tractor and enjoyed many road trips with his friends. He also enjoyed Bison Football, golfing and reading, especially about history and the Bible. Most of all he cherished his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching all their sporting events whether it was in a cold and damp hockey rink, a sunny and warm ball diamond, alongside a football field or a gymnasium filled with girls’ dance teams. Tony was never at a loss for words and always had a story to tell, scripture to recite or advice to give. As a final contribution, Tony has elected to donate his body to the UND School of Medicine.
Most important to Tony was his family. He is survived by his wife, Gwen; his children, Bryon (Kathi) Brenneman, Fargo, ND, Susan (Jerry) Hugen, Wellington, CO and Nathan (Sue) Brenneman, Fargo, ND. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Waliser, Michael Cox, Katie (Brian) Jenkins, Nicholas (Taylor A.) Brenneman, Jordan Brenneman, Taylor R. Brenneman and Seth Brenneman. He also has been so fortunate to be a part of his 3 great grandchildren’s lives, Harper and Easton Jenkins and Gunnar Cox. He will also be fondly remembered by several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Tony and his family would like to thank the staff at the Roger Maris Cancer Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their love and care during the last 2 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
