Lowell F. Johnson, 77, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Fargo Downtown Sanford Palliative Care Unit.
Lowell was born on July 5, 1940 in Garrison, ND, son of Frank and Grace (Carlson) Johnson. He graduated from Garrison High School, received his bachelor’s degree from The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND, and his master’s degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Lowell was a career teacher having taught in Bennett, CO., Tioga, ND, and completed his career at The North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he spent 34 years in the Social Science Department. He retired in 2002 due to health reasons. He received a successful heart transplant in 2004.
In 1964 Lowell was united in marriage to Bonnie J. Farstad. To this union three sons were born: David, Scott and Mark.
Lowell was actively involved in numerous organizations including Bible Study Fellowship, First Lutheran Men’s Fellowship and Kiwanis. He also served on the State Historical Society Board for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bonnie; his three sons, David (Dawn) Johnson, Alexandria, MN; Scott (Dana) Johnson, Rogers, MN; Mark (Carrie) Johnson, Fargo, ND; and seven grandchildren: Blake, Tyesha, Amanda, Andrew, Reid, Avery and Stella Johnson. He is also survived by an aunt, Iveas Carlson, and two sisters-in-law, Betty (Riley) Holmen, and Sandra (Steve) Bakken; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Inga and Harold Farstad and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
